Sugar Cane Alley: Beautifully made, heart felt drama in regards to an II-year-old boy and his all sacrificing nana, gettimg by in a Martinique shantytown throughout the 1930s. The film is a humanist drama of the highest request. Cast includes Precious Legitimus, Garry Cadenat, Routa Seck, Joby Bernabe, and Francisco Charles.  (107 minutes, 1984)

Single Handed: Pitiful female, two times impregnated and three times divorced plans to become prostitute. Mansfield’s last film was not seen in theaters until after her death. Cast includes Jayne Mansfield, Dorothy Keller, Fabian Dean, Billy M. Greene, Martin Horsey, and Walter Gregg. (93 minutes, 1968)

Patty Hearst: A dramatization of the newspaper heiress’s abduction and succeeding brainwashing by the Symbionese Liberation Army. The movie never recovers from a painful first half hour that tries to express, from Hearst?s point of view, the effects of this coordinated mental suffering she is put through. Cast includes Natasha Richardson, William Forsythe, Ving Rhames, Dana Delany, Frances Fisher, Jodi Long, and Olivia Barash.  (108 minutes, 1988)

The Mark:  Whitman is phenomenal in his depiction of spiritually busted sex offender who has served his time and now desires to make new start. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Maria Schell, Rod Steiger, Brenda De Hanzie, Maurice Denham, Donald Wolfit, Paul Rogers, and Donald Houston.  (127 minutes, 1961)

My Son the Hero: Epic film in regards to sinister Emperor Cadmus of Thebes, who challenges the lords and faces the fury of the Titans. Cast includes Pedro Armendariz, Jacqueline Sassard, Antonella Lualdi, and Giuliano Gemma.  (122 minutes, 1962)

Jack London: Hokey, episodic “biography” of famed author invests too much time maligning Japanese which was assumed to give topical slope to this period drama in 1943 Cast includes Michael O’Shea, Susan Hayward, Osa Massen, Harry Davenport, Frank Craven, and Virginia Mayo.  (94 minutes, 1943)

The Little Thief: So-so personality picture of the title lass, a disassociated, amoral adolescent floating thiough life in postwar France. If she comes off as a girl Antoine Doinel, it’s since the original tale was cowritten by Francois Truffuut, who was allegedly preparing to film this at the time of his demise. Cast includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Didier Bezace, Simon de la Brosse, Nathalie Cardone, and Raoul Billerey.  (104 minutes, 1989)

Dusty and Sweets McGee: Unorthodox, no-holds-barred docudrama detailing the daily lives of assorted heroin junkies in Los Angeles region. Cast includes Floyd Mutrux. (87 minutes, 1971)

Hoop Dreams: Magnificent documentary follows 2 Chicago central-city kids (Arthur Agee and William Bars), who have fantasies of basketball stardom, over 4 years’ time. This quaint and immersing film plays like drama, not documentary, with the exception of that it takes spontaneous twists and turns no author might create. The film presents a scorching commentary on our school system, the indomitable power of the family, and the uncertainty of life. (109 minutes, 1994)
