Who was Marie Antoinette?

Marie Antoinette was an Archduchess of Austria and Queen of France and of Navarre. She was the fifteenth and penultimate child of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, and of Maria Theresa, Empress of Austria. When she was just fourteen, on the day of her marriage to Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France, she became Dauphine de France. At the death of Louis XV, in May of 1774, Louis-Auguste became Louis XVI, and teen Marie Antoinette became the Queen of France and of Navarre. After seven years of marriage, she gave birth to a daughter, Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte de France, who was the first of their four children. Marie Antoinette was not loved by the French people. Eventually, she was beheaded.

The locations that American cinema favours seem to vary with every generation. Once upon a time it was Europe that everybody wanted to shoot in, then Italy and even the Middle East, now it’s Canada’s turn in the spot light.

The name fits well with the character because Gaara of the Desert is a killer. When he was young, perhaps only six, his father became concerned when Gaara killed a man simply for passing him in the street. His father sent assassins to kill Gaara, but instead Gaara killed them. His father then tried to send Ninjas, even more deadly assassins, but Gaara proved to much for them. He killed the Ninjas and escaped death a second time.

When “Naruto” begins Gaara of the Desert is only 12 years old. He was created by his father, yes the same one who tried to kill him, as a perfect fighting machine. His father placed a demon inside the boy, which is what gives him his hyper violent nature and the powers he has to kill. Because of this demon, Gaara can never sleep because if he does the demon will take control.

Gaara of the Desert was originally designed as a foil, or antagonist, for the main hero Naruto. Both were born in similar circumstances. But they took different paths in life. Naruto became a force for good while Gaara became the wild killer, a force for evil. The two fight throughout the series. Naruto eventually kills Gaara by removing the demon from inside him. But later Naruto brings Gaara back to life.

Every hero needs a villain to bring out the best in him. Gaara of the Desert has filled this role throughout the Naruto narrative. He is very well liked by fans of the series, and his battles with Naruto are considered the high points of both the Manga and the Anime.

One thing is for certain. You wouldn’t want to meet Gaara of the Desert on a dark night, in a desert or in any other place.

Joe Dirt is a comedy film made in 2001.  It starred David Spade as well as other well-known comedian.  It was written by David Spade.

Joe Dirt wasn’t much of a success with the critics.  Reviews usually gave it a three on a ten point scale.  It received a thumbs down from Ebert.  They called it strained and predictable and said the storyline was absurd.  They did like Spade in the movie.

It pulled in nearly $30 million in the USA. That means Joe Dirt movie was profitable. Its budget was only $16 million. It also made it to number one in New Zealand. But David Spade joked that New Zealand is only the size of Kmart. Dennis Miller has a radio show where he frequently talks about the movie. He’s even interviewed David Spade about it.

Joe Dirt works at a Los Angeles radio station as a low paid janitor.  A producer sees Joe being bullied in the hall and decides that his white trash attitude could become popular.  As a result he puts Joe on the air to be interviewed by a disc jockey.  The movie is Joe telling his story.

Joe Dirt loves a girl named Brandy.  Joe decides to try to find his parents after Brandy loses her dog.  He begins a journey across America.  He does a lot of weird things.  A lot of strange folks meet him along the way.  He works many jobs to make ends meet.  The last of these is his job in the boiler room of the radio station.

Joe Dirt tires of looking so he travels home to be with Brandy.  He learns that she always knew his mother and father had died.  His whole search has been in vain.

Joe Dirt doesn’t realize that the listeners love him. He’s become a media sensation. A woman claiming to be his mother calls him. It turns out it’s all a scam. She’s trying to sell figurines using his name. They really are his parents, but they’ve only contacted him to make money.

At the end of the movie Joe Dirt tries to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. An officer saves him with a bungee cord.  But he hits his head on the way back up.  He later wakes up at Brandy’s house surrounded by many of the people he’s met on his journey.  He has finally found a family.  That’s pretty silly.  No wonder critics didn’t like the movie.

Joe Dirt is proof that Hollywood is desperate for good movies.

The name Kim Kardashian conjures up a picture of the beautiful girl who also happened to be a mate of Paris Hilton.  But now she has built up a profile all of her own and there are many who wonder what this girl is made of.

Kim Kardashian has had some part of the general public focus on her for some time as she is the daughter of OJ Simpson’s lawyer.  In fact there’s an even closer connection as the infamous football players is her godfather.

Reality tv is Kim’s main activity and this is probably what she is best known for.  She is an element of the reality show called “Keeping up with the Kardashians” which follows their day to day life.  It is quite interesting what they get up to on occassion , but it is clear that folks love it as the show’s ratings continue to climb.  Another show that she’s had some participation in is the actuality dancing show. 

Nude photographs in the Playboy mag of December 2007 are only one of Kim’s modeling exploits.  Also she is regarded as a great advertising tool and both Bongo Jeans and Stars and Stripes have used her in their campaigns. 

The movies have not been as kind to Kim and she’s going to want people to forget the undeniable fact that she had a role a film which is regarded as one of the worst movies ever made.  With a name such as Disaster flick, it might not have turned out any other way. 

But her small screen appearances continue doing her good and Kim has recently finished a work out DVD.  The result of this is supposed to have all girls that follow it, soon get the great curves that she has.

Kim Kardashian’s influence even reaches to Africa where she is currently on tour with her sister to promote the sale of diamonds.  At a point in time when the world economy hasn’t appeared quite as under threat as it is now, it can be seen this is an area where much help is required.  The girl actually does seem to be going places.

Requiem For a Dream is a 1978 novel and film released in the year 2000. The novel was written by Hubert Selby Jr., while the film was directed by Darren Aronofky. It won an Academy award for best actress for Ellen Burstyn. This article details both the movie and the novel.

Since the Requiem For A Dream novel came first it comes first here too. It follows for people all with some relationship to each other. Their names are hairy, Marion, Tyrone, and Sara. Harry and Marion are a couple. Tyrone is friends with both of them. Sara is Harry’s mother. Each of them becomes obsessed with gaining their dream. The dream leads them to addiction, and pretty horrible lives. Sara wants to be on television. She binges on diet pills to lose weight after a casting company hints that she might be selected. She ends up hospitalized. Harry, Marion, and Tyrone Seidel make money by selling heroin. But they’ll become addicted to the drug they seek to sell. Everyone’s life is ruined.

The movie focuses more on Sara and Harry, but still includes Marion and Tyrone.  The plot follows the novel fairly closely.  It all happens in three seasons – summer, fall, winter.

In the Summer Sara, who is elderly and alone, watches infomercials on television all day long.  She has nothing to do but eat.  That makes your fat in her opinion.  She eventually learns that she may appear on the infomercial.  She thinks about wearing a red dress that used to fit her when Harry graduated.  She takes up an aggressive diet.  When that doesn’t work she sees a doctor who prescribes amphetamines.  She takes to many, addiction develops.  Signs of this addiction are overly happy personality, and constantly grinding her teeth.

Harry and Tyrone become drug dealers.  They think they can some day buy and sell a pound of heroin which would make them wealthy.  Harry promises Marion he will buy here a clothing store with the money.  Tyrone just wants enough money to get him off the street.

Sara’s addiction is even worse in the fall.  She’s taking more and more, but it isn’t working.  Soon she begins to hallucinate about her refrigerator moving around the house.  Harry and Tyrone get arrested.  All of the money they have made goes to bail.  Meanwhile their addiction to the heroin they’re supposed to sell grows.

The end of the Requiem For A Dream movie is very sad. Winter is horrible.  Harry falls off a roof leaving him in a hospital,  Sara is institutionalized, Tyrone is once again arrested and jailed, and finally Marion can’t shake her own heroin addiction.  Everyone except Harry ends up hallucinating a fantasy world.

Requiem for a Dream is pretty accurate in its depiction of addiction.
